Last Saturday was the annual Super Saturday for the Florida Romance Writers chapter (FRW). About seventy writers attended the panel session, speed ‘dating’ and workshops in a Halloween decorated room at the Coral Spring Center for the Arts.
Our guests of honor included: Dianne Moggy, Harlequin’s Vice-President, coming from Toronto; Melissa Jeglinski, Literary Agent from the Knight Agency in New York, and Susan Boyd, Business Development Manager at Barnes and Noble
During her presentation, Dianne Moggy explained the way HQ operated, the variety of romance offered by Harlequin, the new categories added in various genres.
A panel discussion followed. The panelists included Susan Boyd, Dianne Moggly, Melissa Jeglinski, NY bestselling and all-time favorite author, Heather Graham, USA bestselling author Sophia Knightly, and Award-Winning author Mona Risk.
We answered questions given by the Super Saturday Coordinator, Marcia King-Gable, about the pros and cons of self-publishing, the most successful genres in self-published books and marketing.
Sophia and Mona were asked to explain why they shifted from traditional to self publishing, and how the experience worked for them.
Sophia explained her expertise with marketing and her success with street team and Facebook.
Later we participated in a ‘speed dating’ going from table to table to discuss and chat with the attendees. For me, it was a new experience and a lot of fun to share my understanding of indy publishing.
After lunch, authors Linda Conrad and Carol Stephenson gave a detailed presentation on the new face of self-publishing, while the guests enjoyed the delicious desserts.
All in all it was a very productive day where each author learned something new.
